This was a fun one with some nice serendipity. Back in 2022, I had a small art studio near downtown LA. One day, I got a text from the great, Jessica Hanna, an artist I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few times thanks to another great artist and friend, Alison De La Cruz. Jessica said her friend, Amanda McRaven, was the coordinator and host of “LA LAW” (Los Angeles Ladies’ Arm Wrestling) , which is a great feminist event that supports non-profits…actually, this POPSUGAR Facebook Video can explain it best:

Jessica Hanna reached out close to the event day, and asked if I’d be willing to cover the tournament and festivities of the night. Of course. Then she sent me the address. I spent a good hour or two in my head worrying about logistics and traffic and parking…then I saw that the bar/restaurant was literally around the corner from my studio space on N Spring St. at the Oracle Tavern. Awesome.

As soon as I arrived, it was so easy to start capturing. The crowd, the characters, the trash talk…all top notch. Hopefully the images speak for themselves. Such a fun time:
